MDS Episode #0005: New Mk 13 Mod 7, Wind Constants, and the T3 Reticle
Welcome back to another episode of the Modern Day Sniper Podcast! In this episode Caylen and Phil touch on some more mindfulness behind the rifle and touch on a new hunting oriented tripod from Really Right Stuff before they take a dive into the meat of the episode. Caylen discusses some points of interest from teaching a military course that covers the T3 reticle, the Hornady 4DOF ballistic solver, and a pretty in-depth discussion on wind and how to assign your rifle a wind speed constant. They wrap it up with what's an acceptable sight picture and the differences between combat shooting and competitive shooting.

Great video Guys, how about a video on this 6mph gun story?

Skookum, i think you and I had this same discussion on snipershide, haha. But yeah, there's a few ways to skin that cat. The underlying concept is the same. I wonder if Phil and Caylen have noticed our comments on this.

You can do the same thing with 5moa at 1,000 yards. Which gives you 1/2moa per hundred. Your 6mph mil gun would be a 9mph moa gun.

There is an easy MOA wind formula that uses same concept as MIL. Use a ballistic solver to find what mph wind moves the bullet 1 MOA at 500 yards. Every hundred yards further/nearer is +/- 0.25 MOA. Works pretty well. Not quite as slick as the MIL formula but it's pretty good. There was a good thread on snipershide about MOA wind math discussing this method and others.

You guys are writing danger space in your databook? I never even thought of that.

Thomas Haughland does a good job of isolating what changes weather and DA does to trajectory. He doesn't explain it the best, but that might be part of translation, but you can see it if you watch a lot of his videos. And he seems to hunt/shoot in a wide variety of situations, elevations, and weather. One of the underrated shooting youtubers.

I would interested in a 10/15 minute talk episode on the breakdown of wind bracketing. Specifically determining mph guns. Also, what if 4, 5, or 6 mph doesn’t line up with 400, 500 , or 600 yards etc. this is a new concept to me that I wasn’t taught in formal classes for long range shooting. Thanks for providing a great podcast with a wealth of knowledge. Keep up the good work guys!
